The Lab

Laboratory for Medical Device Development and Testing Center

Director: Senior Neurointerventionist
A Laboratory for Medical Device Development and Testing Center at the NeuroScience Innovation Foundation will maintain a Materials Science and Testing facility to investigate and evaluate new product potentials in the neuroscience space. The Lab operates under the direction of a senior neuro-interventionalist and his staff. Initial device development is focused on coiling for aneurysm, and catheters for clots in the head and neck that cause ischemic stroke. It is contemplated this this laboratory will be a facility shared with biotech firms recruited to the Chattanooga Biotech Corridor. (see below)

Robotic Neuro-Intervention Program in Less Developed Nations

Robotic Surgery provides the opportunity for remote surgical procedures, often in isolated areas that lack facilities and medical expertise to perform sophisticated, life-saving medical intervention. In partnership with industry pioneers, the NIF Science Director and his colleagues at Memorial CHI are researching the extension of Robotic Surgery systems into neuro-medical applications, such as endarterectomy for blockages in the carotid artery; coiling for aneurysms; and thrombectomy procedures to remove thromboemboli that cause ischemic stroke. In early demonstration programs the Robotic Neuro-Intervention Program will target isolated communities in the US as well as selected sites in the Less Developed Latin America and Asian nations.
